This is one of the most-searched questions in UAE IT and one of the least usefully answered, because every provider would rather scope you first. Here is what actually drives the figure.
The four things that decide it
- Device count — the single biggest driver, more than headcount, because one person can have three devices
- Number of sites — an office plus a warehouse is two connections, two sets of hardware and two places somebody may need to attend
- What is on site — a business entirely in Microsoft 365 with no server is materially cheaper to support than one with on-premise infrastructure
- Response commitment — same-day on-site attendance costs multiples of remote-first support, and most small offices do not need it
What a quote should separate
Ask for three response times rather than one: time to acknowledge, time to attend, time to resolve. A single blended number is the least useful figure in any AMC and the easiest to disappoint against.
Ask what is excluded. Physical installation work, project work, hardware and same-day attendance are commonly outside a support contract, and finding that out during an incident is the wrong moment.
Where small offices overspend
On response commitments they will never use. A twelve-person Dubai office with everything in the cloud and no server rarely needs somebody physically present within hours — and paying for that availability every month, for an event that may not occur in a year, is the commonest overspend we see.
The honest way to size it is to ask what an hour of downtime actually costs your business. Most owners have never calculated it, and the number usually argues for less cover than they were about to buy.
Where they underspend
On the preventive half. A contract that only answers tickets has an incentive problem — the more that breaks, the busier it looks. The value is in patching on a schedule, alerts before a disk fills, and backups verified by actually restoring them.
Ask any provider what they do when nothing is wrong. The answer separates a support contract from a phone number.
Two things to insist on regardless
Your documentation and your credentials, held in systems you own. A provider holding the only copy of your network diagram has made themselves difficult to replace, and difficulty is a poor substitute for performance.
We scope managed IT services in Dubai on device count, sites and what downtime actually costs you — and say plainly when a locally-staffed provider suits you better. If the question is broader than support, IT consulting in Dubai covers the three-year picture. Before signing anything, choosing an IT AMC in the UAE covers the contract terms worth reading properly.
