Data Analytics & BI in Dubai

OptiFi builds business intelligence and reporting for UAE organisations on Power BI, Zoho Analytics and the tools you already own. We start from the decisions the reporting exists to inform, because a comprehensive dashboard that answers no question anyone was asking is admired once and never opened again.

Start with the decision, not the dashboard

Most business intelligence work fails in a specific way: a comprehensive dashboard is built, admired once, and never opened again. It failed because it answered no question anybody was actually asking.

We start from decisions. Which customers are worth keeping, which products earn their shelf space, whether cash will cover the next quarter, where margin is leaking. Each of those is a question with an owner and a cadence, and a report nobody owns is a report nobody reads.

Named decisions

The specific choices the reporting exists to inform, agreed before anything is built.

An owner per report

A person who reviews it on a stated cadence, because unowned dashboards decay.

Fewer numbers

A small set that is trusted, rather than a comprehensive set that is not.

A retirement rule

Reports nobody opened in three months are removed, which keeps the rest credible.

The reporting UAE finance teams actually need

Alongside the commercial questions there is a compliance layer that consumes real hours here. VAT return figures reconciled against the ledger before filing, output and input tax separated by treatment, and the designated-zone and reverse-charge transactions that are hardest to agree at period end.

Multi-entity groups add another layer. A mainland company and one or two free zone entities produce three sets of books that somebody consolidates manually every month, usually in a spreadsheet that only one person fully understands.

Corporate tax has raised the stakes on both. Reporting that can produce the underlying figures on demand converts a stressful annual exercise into a routine one.

VAT reconciliation

Return figures agreed to the ledger before filing rather than after a query.

Group consolidation

Multiple entities combined systematically, so month-end does not depend on one person's spreadsheet.

Corporate tax support

The underlying figures available on demand rather than assembled annually under pressure.

Currency handling

AED reporting with foreign-currency transactions translated consistently and visibly.

Data quality is the whole job

Analytics projects are sold as visualisation work and delivered as data-cleaning work. The same customer exists three times with three spellings, product codes changed in 2023 and nobody restated the history, and two systems disagree about last month's revenue for reasons no one can explain.

None of that is fixed by a better chart. It is fixed by agreeing what a customer record is, who owns it, and where the authoritative version lives — which is unglamorous and is where the value is.

We say this at the start, because a proposal that promises dashboards in two weeks without mentioning data quality has either not looked at your data or is not planning to fix it.

Tools, and why we do not lead with them

Power BI, Zoho Analytics and the reporting built into your ERP will all produce a competent dashboard. The choice usually follows what you already own and what your team can maintain, not a feature comparison.

The consideration that matters more is who maintains it after we leave. A model only we can change is a dependency, and we would rather hand over something your finance team can extend than something they must commission us to amend.

Use what you own

Reporting built on licences you already pay for, before anything new is purchased.

Maintainable models

Built so your team can extend them rather than raising a request for every change.

Documented logic

How each figure is calculated, written down, so a number can be defended in a meeting.

Handover

Training on the model itself, not just on how to open the report.

Common questions

Business Intelligence (BI) is the process of using technology to analyze data and present actionable information to help business leaders make more informed decisions. It commonly involves creating reports and interactive dashboards to track performance.
