Microsoft Azure in the UAE
Part of Cloud Solutions in Dubai
Azure suits organisations already built on Microsoft identity — where staff sign in with the same accounts they use for Microsoft 365, and where an existing Windows estate is moving rather than being rebuilt. That integration is the reason to choose it over a technically comparable alternative.
UAE regions, and when they are actually required
Microsoft operates two Azure regions in the Emirates: UAE North in Dubai and UAE Central in Abu Dhabi. Keeping workloads in country is therefore available rather than aspirational.
Whether you need them is contractual rather than technical. For many UAE businesses residency is preferable and a lower-cost region elsewhere is perfectly acceptable. For suppliers into government entities, regulated sectors, or organisations operating under ADGM's own regime, it can be mandatory — and establishing that after workloads have moved means moving them twice and explaining why.
The second region matters for resilience rather than residency. Two UAE regions make an in-country disaster recovery arrangement possible without sending data abroad, which is a genuinely useful option and one many buyers do not know exists.
Residency established first

Dubai and Abu Dhabi regions, with honest arithmetic where a cheaper region would do.
In-country DR
Recovery between the two UAE regions without data leaving the Emirates.

Identity is where Azure earns its place
The strongest argument for Azure in a UAE business is rarely the compute. It is Entra ID — the same identity behind Microsoft 365 extended to servers, applications and remote access, so conditional access policies and multi-factor authentication apply across the estate rather than to email alone.
That matters here because business email compromise is the dominant financial cyber loss for UAE trading companies. Extending the same sign-in controls to everything else closes the routes that a separate identity system leaves open.
It also removes a category of administrative work. One account to create and one to disable when somebody leaves, rather than a list nobody maintains and a leaver who retains access to a system everybody forgot about.
Migration, and the bill in month four
We migrate in stages with a tested rollback at each one, scheduled around the UAE working weekend of Friday evening to Sunday — a shorter window than most international runbooks assume, which needs planning for rather than discovering.
Costs rarely surprise anyone in month one. They surprise people in month four, when the test environment nobody switched off, instances sized defensively during migration, and storage snapshots accumulating quietly have all been running a while.
Cost control is a monthly habit with a named owner, and we hand it over rather than keeping it. A client who cannot read their own Azure bill is dependent on us for a routine task, and that is not a relationship either side should want.
Staged with rollback
Each stage reversible, because the time to find out is not four in the afternoon.
The UAE weekend
Friday evening to Sunday, planned rather than assumed from a foreign runbook.
Right-sizing after data
Instances resized on measured usage, not on the defensive guess made during migration.
Handed over
You read your own bill, with a named owner and authority to switch things off.
Backup, which Azure does not do for you
Microsoft guarantees its infrastructure, not your data. Deleted files, ransomware and a mistaken bulk update remain your responsibility, and the platform's durability figure protects against none of them.
We configure backup with retention matched to your record-keeping obligations, and then restore from it. A backup nobody has restored is an assumption, and the moment you discover which one it was is the worst possible moment. For UAE businesses the backup location raises the residency question again, and it deserves the same deliberate answer as the workload.
Retention to obligation
Matched to the periods your records must survive rather than to a default.
Restores tested
Performed on a schedule with the evidence handed to you.
Immutable copies
At least one that ransomware cannot encrypt or delete.
Backup residency
Where copies live, answered as deliberately as where the workload runs.
